I recently realized that almost all of the fantasy novels I’ve read throughout my life were written by women. Many of the women characters in those works turned out to be role models for me growing up. After further reflecting on that group, three different types of characters emerged – the ‘Earth Mother,’ the ‘Warrior,’ and the ‘Sage.’ All three are not afraid to show their femininity while still being strong in whatever forms those take – either physically, mentally, or emotionally. They are all extremely in touch with their sense of self and unapologetic of that. 

The Earth has a close relationship to the material world and the inherent magic of it. 

The Warrior may not have that relationship with the spiritual but they are a force in and of themselves and have a strong sense of justice. 

And the Sage has a close relationship with the celestial aspects of the world.
