There is a lily pond by the house I spent my summer at growing up. After gathering some beginning inspiration images surrounding lily ponds – I then looked to Art Nouveau, as many of the qualities I found inspiring about lily ponds are present in that era (such as very vertical curvilinear lines, dramatic curves, emphasis on plants and wildlife, etc). I also found myself inspired by reflections in water from beneath, as well as the movement, and how the murkiness of the water in combination with the variety of plant life affects visibility beneath the surface.
